Shrek 5 — The Return to the Swamp (and Beyond)
Official Revival Confirmed
After more than a decade since Shrek Forever After (2010), DreamWorks Animation has officially revived the beloved franchise. In 2024, the studio confirmed Shrek 5 is in development, reuniting original voices — Mike Myers as Shrek, Eddie Murphy as Donkey, and Cameron Diaz as Fiona.
Early Buzz & Teaser Trailer
In early 2025, DreamWorks revealed a teaser featuring the iconic characters interacting with the Magic Mirror, which showed humorous and meme-inspired images of Shrek. The teaser also introduced a new character, Felicia — the teenage daughter of Shrek and Fiona — voiced by Zendaya. Updated character designs have sparked discussion among fans, with mixed reactions online.

Directors & Creative Team
The film is co-directed by Walt Dohrn, who worked as a writer and artist on Shrek 2 and Shrek the Third and served as head of story on Shrek Forever After, Brad Ableson (Minions: The Rise of Gru), and Conrad Vernon (Shrek 2). The script is written by Michael McCullers, promising a story that blends fresh ideas with the heart and humor fans love.
Release Date Changes
Originally set for release on July 1, 2026, the date was moved to December 23, 2026, to coincide with DreamWorks’ 25th anniversary. It has since been delayed again to June 30, 2027, giving the film a summer blockbuster slot while avoiding heavy competition in December.

Donkey Spin-off in Development
Eddie Murphy has confirmed that a standalone Donkey spin-off is also in production, expanding the Shrek universe even further. Details about the spin-off’s release and storyline remain under wraps.
