DEAR HONGRANG: SEASON 2 — THE SHADOW OF THE LOST THRONE
Years after the tragic fate of Hong-rang, peace finally seems to have returned to Joseon. Jae-yi lives quietly while caring for abandoned children, trying to bury the painful memories of the man she loved and lost. But on the night of the first snowfall, a mysterious letter arrives at her door — written in Hong-rang’s handwriting.
“Some truths were never meant to die.”
At first, Jae-yi believes it is a cruel trick. But when royal officials begin disappearing one by one, whispers spread across the kingdom about a masked swordsman wearing black robes and carrying the exact same scar Hong-rang once hid beneath his clothes.
Meanwhile, deep inside the palace, Crown Prince Yi Seon uncovers a terrifying secret left behind by Prince Han Pyeong before his death: a hidden royal ledger containing the names of powerful nobles involved in child trafficking, murder, and treason. Whoever possesses the ledger controls the fate of the throne itself.
As chaos erupts across Joseon, Jae-yi is forced back into a deadly world of deception and bloodshed. Her search leads her to a forbidden island prison where she discovers an impossible truth — the real Hong-rang may have survived.
But the man she finds is no longer the gentle soul she once knew.
Broken by years of torture and betrayal, Hong-rang has become colder, darker, and consumed by vengeance. He believes the royal family destroyed everything he loved, and he now leads a secret rebellion preparing to burn Joseon to the ground.
Torn between love and duty, Jae-yi risks everything to save him before he loses himself completely. Yet another danger rises from the shadows: a mysterious noblewoman named Lady Seo-hwa, who claims to have been Hong-rang’s wife during his years in captivity.
As old wounds reopen and forbidden feelings return, the kingdom descends into war. Loyalties shatter. Brothers become enemies. And Jae-yi must make an impossible choice:
Save the man she loves… or save Joseon itself.
The second season becomes darker, more emotional, and far more dangerous — filled with heartbreaking betrayals, tragic romance, brutal sword fights, and shocking revelations about Hong-rang’s true bloodline.
In the final moments of the season, Hong-rang stands before the burning royal palace, holding the king’s sword in his hand as thousands kneel before him.
Then he quietly says:
“I was never meant to return… I came back to end this kingdom.”
The war for love, revenge, and the throne has only just begun. 🔥
